It is now possible for Japanese mobile phone users to transmit messages to GSM mobile phone across the world. The SMS is the mobile text message standard most widely used in the world. Annual traffic is over 1 trillion and used more widely than e-mail in countries other than Japan. In fact, since e-mail and SMS are not compatible, it was impossible to send messages from Japanese mobile phones to GSM mobile phones in other countries.
